Since its inception as the Balga Technical School in the early 1970s, the Balga Campus has developed into a major centre for building and construction. Advanced equipment provides you with a competitive edge and ensures you’ll continue to receive industry-relevant training.
Balga is a suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, and is located 13 kilometres north of Perth's central business district. Balga Campus is located just north of Reid Highway.

Parking is available for South Metropolitan TAFE students, but students must not park is designated staff bays.
The Balga campus car parks come under the jurisdiction of the City of Stirling parking by-laws. Infringement notices will be issued to persons who do not comply with the following regulations:
- Parking is restricted to marked bays;
- Students are not permitted to park in staff parking bays;
- Parking is not permitted on any lawn area;
- Speed limit is 15km/h; and
- No reckless or dangerous driving.

Our on-campus services
The Balga campus is home to one of South Metropolitan TAFE’s hairdressing facilities for apprentices (the other is at the Midland Campus). The salon is managed and supervised by lecturing staff and services are available to all students and external clients at a reduced cost. As this is a training facility, please allow plenty of time for your appointment. For hairdressing appointments at Balga, please call 9207 4449 Monday to Thursday, between 8:00am and 3:30pm.
Balga specialises primarily in aspects of the building and construction trades, with a particularly strong background in the following:
- wall and floor tiling
- painting and decorating
Access to information is easy
The library provides:
- A large and diverse resource collection of books, magazines and DVDs;
- Assistance with researching for information and answers to reference enquiries;
- Information sessions on library and information services, supported with published and online information guides;
- Assistance with study, referencing and learning skills;
- Networked and wireless computer areas;
- Access to electronic information such as internet and databases; and
- Access to audiovisual equipment.
Students can access South Metropolitan TAFE’s Library catalogue, databases and web directories, as well as the Student Portal, from the Library website. Library publications including referencing and study guides can be freely downloaded from the website.
The library website also has information on opening hours, contact details, library policies and rules, interactive tours and services.
The Balga cafeteria is open Monday to Friday (hours posted at the door); the campus is also situated less than five-minutes from Mirrabooka Square Shopping Centre on Yirrigan Drive.
Mirrabooka has an eight-restaurant food court and stores.

Disability Services can assist local students in minimising any barriers to study caused by disability or a medical condition. Staff will coordinate services to meet individual needs; work to eliminate barriers which may disadvantage students; assist students to achieve their education and career goals; and encourage students to be independent and take responsibility for their course of study.
